Wellness Care

We provide many services to help you keep your pets in the best health that you can. Read on to find out more about these services.

Wellness Examination

The wellness exam is the cornerstone of maintaining your pet's health. With regular exams we can make sure your pets are in optimal health and we are able to find problems earlier, when they are easier to address. Wellness exams can be broken into 3 general categories.

  1. Puppy and kitten exams- to make sure your puppies and kittens are getting off to the best start they can, we recommend regular exams and vaccinations as well as parasite testing starting at 6-8 weeks of age. At these exams we can provide advice on training (including house training), nutrition and feeding, we can provide vaccine and deworming as well as plan for a spay or neuter procedure.
  2. Annual check ups- Because pets life span is unfortunately shorter than our own- they age more on a year to year basis. This makes it important that we see pets regularly to check for any changes that could be affecting their health.
  3. As pets get older they are prone to many diseases that we can help them with. Kidney disease, arthritis, and dental disease are a few of the more common things that we can help manage to make pets more healthy (and happier). These issues can often go undetected for months to years. Senior check ups every 6 months along with blood and urine tests can help us to monitor for health concerns in older pets.

Vaccinations

Vaccines are the first line of defense against many highly contagious and possibly deadly diseases. Our goal is to vaccinate more animals (but less often than what is often given) in order to maximize the preventative benefits of the vaccines while limiting any adverse effects from vaccines. We stock vaccines for dogs and cats including rabies, distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, kennel cough, Lyme disease, influenza, panleukopenia, and feline leukemia. We can also arrange for titer testing to check antibody levels to see if vaccination is necessary.

Parasite Prevention

Parasite treatment obviously keeps your pet more healthy but did you know that it can keep your family more healthy as well? We can help you to choose preventatives that are effective while offering convince and affordability. There are many parasites and many treatments- our veterinarians are the best source to help you put together a prevention and treatment plan using the most up to date knowledge.

Nutritional Counseling

Weight and nutrition are as important to our pets as they are to ourselves. We stock a variety of prescription diets and can help advise you to make the best choice for your pets taking into account nutritional value, cost and convenience.

Spay and Neuter

We provide spay and neuter procedures to help keep pets earthy as well as prevent any unwanted pregnancies (thus helping to control pet overpopulation). Patients that come for spay and neuter surgeries come for the day, have preoperative and post operative exams performed, are under full anesthesia for the procedures, receive monitoring from our veterinary staff. We also recommend pre-operative blood testing, iv fluids and full digital anesthetic monitoring.

Identification

Pet identification microchips are an inexpensive and permanent way to help your pets find their way back home if they should get out, get lost or stolen. Veterinary clinics as well as shelters and animal control regularly check for microchips in found pets to make sure they haven't gotten away from home accidentally.
